When you post a video other people think is cool on youtube, you can expect 3 things to happen.

1. You will get a lot of views
2. Your video will be republished
3. Some of your republished videos will be rick roll bait

The Antipathy trailer was just such a video.  It received numerous awards for which I am eternally grateful and it was republished numerous times which is also fine with me so long as proper credit is given etc.  


So, when I saw this pole smokers republished Antipathy video not only claiming it was the Official Gears of War 3 trailer but then being ball-less enough to take credit for it to boot??  I had to take action – right up to the point I saw it had received like 100k views in just 30 days or something.  So the “view whore” in me took over and decided that exposure is exposure and just let it ride.  I did send him a few PM’s at first asking him to give us credit for the vid which he did not do.  The last correspondence I had with him was me calling him a various assortment of expletives.  That video has now surpassed one million views and I imagine will keep on keeping on unless someone reports it.


And that’s sort of the way it works with me.  I got my first million view video but it will be under false pretenses and not even on my channel. HA!  /grumble

Imagine my surprise when I got an email from Xbox World UK magazine asking me if they could put my movies on the DVD that accompanies their magazine. Well low and behold it has released and god damnit…WE’RE IN IT!! or on it whichever you prefer. In any case, hate to brag but I am just so full of awesome happiness right now that I just had to tell someone!! I guess the only bad news is that it’s from November 2009’s Issue. Weird, AMIRITE!

Well after a long difficult study session, I am happy to announce I am done with the face rigging for the cast of Antipathy.  That would be the Locust Commander , Marcus, DOM, Cole, Baird, and possibly a few more.  Here is a screenshot of the guys in action and though it can ALWAYS be improved, I am pretty happy with the facial movement at this point.  I am finding that facial animation is the Black Hole of improvement so I have to force myself off of this task and on to the next.  But anyway I am happy to be at this point and begin the facial animation in Unreal Ed.

I am also in the market for a mocap system thinking that now is as good a time as ever to make that investment.  Have my eye on a couple and will let you all know when I get closer to pulling the *gulp* trigger.

I am pleased to announce that we are delaying the release date of our Gears of War short “Antipathy”.  Why am I pleased?  What could possibly be so wrong with me that I could be happy about this travesty? Because it will make the film a gabillion times better that’s why!

First of all I need to thank everyone for their helpful comments on the plethora of blogs, forums, websites, etc that Antipathy was promoted.  99% of the comments have been very positive and I would just like to say that I, the creator, feed off of this.  It really helps keep you motivated, so huge thanks there.  Of course this is somewhat of a double edged sword as it made me really analyze the film under the proverbial microscope.  So what am I doing?


First: I am totally redoing the opening sequence, adding entire scenes that will help the viewer get a much clearer idea of what is going on.


Second: I don’t want to say too much here but I am creating a system that will allow me to demolish a city in unreal.


Third: I am totally redoing the fight scene and ending. One of the biggest criticisms I got (and maybe rightfully so) was about the locust ninja.  So I will tone that down a bit and make it closer to GoW reality.  And for those of you asking about why there are no guns, there is a def a reason why they don’t use guns.


Four: Adding dialog. This will be difficult and will require me to rig each COG head with facefx.  In addition I will have to use suitable voices for the characters.

I will also be releasing another trailer as we get a little bit closer to the release date.  That’s about it, thanks again for your support and I will keep you all updated as to my progress.

When you open up Disk Manger (right click my computer > manage) and next to your 1TB drive (that incidentally houses all of your FRAPS clips and finished projects) there is a “AT RISK” icon and text.  Heed it! Else you will find yourself running chkdsk to try and recover whats left.  Which will fail due to the fact that the HD now sounds like it has small metalic rocks or equivilant inside and chkdsk has failed on you with an “unspecified error”. Heed the warning and get those files outta there!
