Unreal Engine FaceFX tutorial part 1

Posted by m3 On May - 31 - 2009

A comprehensive start to finish tutorial. I will do another one with the existing meshes either soon or a long time from now. *Video was too long, re-uploading now…

Tnx a lot for that comprehensive tutorial on FaceFX. I had a look at it when the Unreal3
was released, but never managed to get it to work. At that early stage not enough information was available on the web and forums. One had to create an own character face rig since creating and saving expressions for the characters from the game was
not allowed. That was the point where I gave up Unreal and moved to Cryengine.

    Hey no problem man.

How did it go in the CryEngine? I have kept one eye on that engine for quite some time wanting to do some work in there. Just been too busy with UE. Link me to some of your work please :)

There is a way to make the delivered faceFX work for unreal though like you said it is quite the work around. :) Thanks for replying!

  3. CD Said,

Unfortunately I’ve never finished any showable Machinima movie with that engine. That’s a pity, because I have spend more time in it than any other engine so far. At least I got some payoff by running workshops to share some of my knowledge. Like UE it’s very poweful but needs a lot of work and knowledge to get soemthing done with it. I guess that is why not many Machinima movies have yet published with these engines. And it’s extremely rare that somone manages to make such a high quality movie like you did with such an engine. With Cryengine I know only one that got some recognition at MFF: Eden: The Zhang Chronicles Episode 1

Many of the Cryengine Machinima is just done as cut-scenes for game mods.
The modding community is great and very helful. Their website is a good place whenever you want to know more about that engine:

Hey all! Sorry things have been a little quiet here lately. I have been battling some health stuff lately that has all but zapped my energy. When I can however I have been doing some tests to see if I can make my next GoW movie in glorious 3DS max. I think I can I think I can I think I can. Here are a couple renders for you to chew on! Hope you guys are great!
